It's 2012 and the Mayans have predicted massive change. Some fear it spells the end of the world and they've promptly crumbled into panic (after stocking up on canned goods), especially after seeing the doomsday Roland Emmerich film. Nasa has even leapt to the world's defence in an effort to calm the fearful masses by publishing a doomsday FAQ on their website. Others say it's just plain bull, get over it and move on with your life. What do I say? Well, I'm glad you asked. I say there is a massive change coming; in fact I believe it's already started. People are taking stock and figuring out what's important. Something is happening. I've spoken to a lot of people and they feel it too...
Kind is the new black. I never thought I'd see the day. People are smiling on the streets, charity donations are increasing, communities are solidifying; my husband isn't self-combusting when someone cuts in front of him in peak hour traffic. What's happened? I can only assume that it's become too hard to avoid the neighbours, too expensive to pay to go the long way after you’ve been rude to the cab driver and too emotionally draining to dwell on the lady who wouldn't move for you on the train even though you're on crutches. On the basis of these observations, I have a hunch that the big change our Mayan friends were talking about wasn't a change to our planet, but a change to our collective consciousness.
Wouldn't it be great if this 'nice epidemic' is real and our relationships with our neighbours/workmates/sisters/mechanics/the people who drive 50km in a 60km zone became easy and pleasant (even the slow coaches could be a lesson in patience.) Sure, we'll always have to deal with bad moods, differences of opinion; someone parking in our spot or a sandwich that takes a few minutes longer to make than you have have time for. But what if we didn't let it bother us. Could it really happen? Well, maybe…
"… the Mayans recognize that we are approaching the end of a World Age... In both cases, however, the Hopi and Mayan elders do not prophesy that everything will come to an end. Rather, this is a time of transition from one World Age into another. The message they give concerns our making a choice of how we enter the future ahead. Our moving through with either resistance or acceptance will determine whether the transition will happen with cataclysmic changes or gradual peace and tranquility. The same theme can be found reflected in the prophecies of many other Native American visionaries from Black Elk to Sun Bear."

I’m ready to make the transition. Who’s joining me?
